CROCKER’S MARK GALLERY

613 W. Morgan

Fifty-one year old Stan Crocker remodeled the space formerly known as SM Crocker & Son- a lawn mower business located next to Moonlight Pizza. For years Boylan Heights residents took their lawn mowers for repair at Crocker & Son, who was known locally for quality work. SMCrocker II died in 1985. He and his father established the business in 1948 and specialized in small engine repair, lawn mower repair, and the sale of Snapper lawn mowers. Stan, (SM Crocker III,) ran the business from 1985 - 2004. Now the space at 613 W Morgan houses an art gallery, featuring artists from around the world. The gallery opened October 7, 2005. Stan, an NC State graduate and father of two, sees it fitting to have an art gallery in this space as he came from a family of craftsmen.

Currently, four artists’ have their work displayed at Crocker’s Mark Gallery. They are Didi S. Gilson, Paul Slapion, Raney Rogers, and local talent-Wayne Taylor, Professor Emeritus of Art + Design at NCSU’s College of Design. Ms. Gilson’s and Mr. Slapion’s medium is photography, while Ms. Roger’s and Mr. Taylor’s medium is painting.

Stan himself is an artist - working in photography, woodwork and metal work. He also rents space to Meredith Brickell (sculptress) and Ray Duffey (woodworker and printmaker.)

Stan invites Boylan Heights to come to Crocker’s Mark Gallery and see the art. The first Friday of each month there is a special celebration of an artist and their art from 6 - 10 pm. In general the gallery hours are: Tuesday - Friday 11- 2 and 3 - 5 , Wednesday until 9 pm, Saturday 1- 4 or call for an appointment at 612-7277 or 834-4961. The week of April 23 through April 30 a sculpture and pottery class from Carolina Community College in Siler City is going to be using the entire studio to display their art. Please support our community colleges and their students by coming out to this event.
