Project Enlightenment

Attendance:  Chris Todd, Evelyn M. Fahy, Chris Weedy, Jeff Mason, Meghan Melloy, Bernard Herberholt, Jay Spain, and Jimmy Creech.
 
I.  Announcements:  a News & Observer article about BH neighbors Sheila Stump and Scott Langley and their Catholic Worker home on Dorothea Drive was passed around and appreciated.  Refrigerator magnets with City of Raleigh agencies’ telephone numbers were also distributed.  Additional agenda items were requested and added.
 
II.  Review and Approval of the November Minutes:  Jeff Mason moved the approval of the minutes as recorded.  Evelyn Fahy seconded the motion.  The motion carried.
 
III.  Finance Report: Jimmy Creech gave the following report prepared by the treasurer, Leslie Kellenberger

+ Bank Balance on 1-10-05:  $2,636.51

   Bank Balance on 12-19-05:  $4,798.38
 
Jeff Mason moved the Finance Report be approved.  Evelyn Fahy seconded the motion.  The motion carried.
 
+ Jimmy Creech announced that Capital Fitness had agreed to be a sponsor of the Boylan Bash by contributing $100 to the BHA.  In exchange, Capital Fitness was permitted to have representatives at the Bash advertising their facility and promoting membership.  However, in spite of letters and telephone calls to the CEO and other staff over the intervening months, Capital Fitness has not responded in any way and has not made the $100 contribution.
 
+ Jimmy announced that he had purchased poinsettia for the Downtown District Office of the Raleigh Police Department and for Project Enlightenment to express appreciation for their support to Boylan Heights over the past year.  Evelyn Fahy moved that Jimmy be reimbursed $27.78 for the cost of the poinsettia.  Chris Todd seconded her motion.  The motion passed.
 
+ Jimmy announced he will ask Joseph Huberman, editor of the newsletter, to prepare a budget for the newsletter as well as proposals for reducing the cost of the newsletter. He will ask Joseph for a report and recommendations at the January meeting.  The last three newsletters cost $358.20 ($119.40 per issue).  Jimmy reminded the meeting that the BHA began discussions last year about how to reduce the cost of the newsletter when it was averaging $75.81 per issue.  Newsletter sponsorships solicited in 2005 produced $161.43 to defray the costs.  An anonymous donor covered thc cost of the newsletters during the summer.
 
IV.  Reports from Committees and Special Neighborhood Projects
+ Friends of Dorothea Dix Park -- Jay Spain reported that Friends of Dorothea Dix Park has a new web site address:  www.DixPark.org.  He announced that there will be a gathering at Moonlight Pizza at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 16 to unveil the Friends of Dorothea Dix Park’s plan for the Dorothea Dix property.  Everyone is invited to attend.
+ Welcoming Committee:  Chris Weedy reported for chairperson Lyman Collins that Paul and Deborah Fitchett (409 Kinsey) have been welcomed to the neighborhood.  Please continue to welcome Paul and Deborah and also please inform Lyman when new neighbors move in (lyman.collins@townofcary.org or 821-0899). 
 
V.  Old Business:  None
 
VI.  New Business:
+ Sewer relocation on South Street – Evelyn Fahy reported that the City of Raleigh has informed neighbors living on South Street that the sewer line will be relocated from the alley to the street.  There will be cost to the neighbors affected.  Jeff Mason volunteered to call the City to get more information and to report back to the BHA.
+ Jay Spain reported that the City of Raleigh has completed installing new street lights along Kinsey Street.
