Reports from Committees and Special Neighborhood  Projects.

a.  Welcoming Committee - Lyman Collins:  Two new households were greeted in the last month.  Meghan Melloy, Bernard Herbarholt, Julie Nuerberger, Liz O’Hare and Martin Carver are all in the Jesuit Volunteer Program and living at 704 Florence Street.  Jason and Ellen Graves plus daughters Adair and Malley live at 408 Kinsey with Suzanne Davis, Ellen’s mother.

The Welcoming Committee is seeking out all new neighbors so please let us know so we can share neighbor information and resources and give them a warm, neighborly welcome.

We are in the process of evaluating the welcome material.  If anyone has any suggestions for additional information please let me know.  Special thanks to Chris Weedy who is soliciting businesses to include coupons in the packet.  Moonlight Pizza has agreed so far.

The Welcoming Committee is also seeking new members.  If you would like to be a part of the committee please let me know.

Contact Lyman Collins at  821-0899 or email lyman.collins@townofcary.org.

b.   Dix Property – Jay Spain:  Referred attendees to the BHA Newsletter article.  311 acres to preserve, value $30-40 million.  Vote your conscience for City Council members.  Several plans are being discussed.  Possible water feature.

c. Problem Properties – Chris Weedy:  A fourth meeting was held on Sept. 26 to discuss properties on the 700 block of S. Boylan and Florence.  Concern about criminal and nuisance behavior.  Have made huge strides.  Distributed before and after pictures for 701 S. Boylan.  Trouble has moved to 715 S. Boylan.  Call 911 with any concerns.

            d.  Website Committee – Chris Weedy:  27,000 hits to date.  Average 1,500 hits per month. 21 properties sold this year.  Conserve Water and Raleigh Saw articles as well as Bash pictures have been posted.  Future article on Bloomsbury Estates.  Sept. is BH Babies Month.

Old Business.

g.         Sidewalks – Jimmy Creech:  Presented the City Standards.  Is there any interest for a volunteer group to repair sidewalks?  Provide labor free, need a permit and bond.

h.         Overgrowth – Jimmy Creech:  City will enforce removal of overgrowth.  Evidently trees in right-of-way must be maintained by City.

New Business

i.          Helen Wright Center – Judy Murray:  Breakfast is served the 3rd  Sunday of every month.  35-40 women served.  BH has been doing this for 10 years.  Difficulty in getting people to volunteer.  Judy asked for assistance.  We will put an article in the newsletter and on the web site with a calendar.  Several people attending the meeting volunteered to serve breakfast.  Judy clarified that volunteer servers do not need to find the next month’s servers.

The following motion passed unanimously:  “The BHA offers to fund a monthly breakfast at the Helen Wright Center if the volunteer servers request it, up to a maximum of $40.”

 The meeting was adjourned.

Next Meeting: October 25, 2005, 7:00 to 8:30 PM,  location: Project Enlightenment.
